Meet the First Cohort of the New American Youth Leadership Corps!

Big news to share with you - we've launched a new leadership training program for New York's immigrant high school students, and we need you to help spread the word!

On Wednesday, April 27th, 24 New York City high school students from across the five boroughs graduated from the first cohort of the New American Youth Leadership Corps (NAYLC), an initiative run by the New York Immigration Coalition with the generous support of Citi Community Development.

Meet the amazing young people who participated in the program:

NAYLC was developed to support 1st or 2nd generation immigrant high school students in their leadership development and pathways to success. The first cohort had 24 participants from African, Asian, Caribbean, Latino, and Middle Eastern communities, who learned about immigration history, civic engagement, college access, financial literacy, public speaking and facilitation. These youth also engaged in volunteer service, helping out at immigration service events to help people become citizens, get free legal services, and obtain consular IDs. We want to thank Citi Community Development for their critical support of this program that has allowed us to make an impact on young peoples’ lives.

We are so proud of these young people for their extraordinary efforts and enthusiasm during the course of the program!

Check out what some of the youth had to say about the New American Youth Leadership Corps:

Bralyn Torres, a senior at High School for Health Careers and Sciences, whose family is from the Dominican Republic said, “The NAYLC program helped provide me with valuable life skills and volunteer opportunities to serve immigrant communities. I recently volunteered through the program for a legal clinic for immigrants. I've also learned through the program to be more open and try new things.”

Now, we need your help to make it even bigger!  We'll be launching our second cohort of the New American Leadership Corp this summer. Click HERE to learn more about how to apply for the June cohort of NAYLC.

Please help spread the word to New York high schoolers!

We also need your support to help the program strengthen the future leaders of New York, one

immigrant youth at a time. To donate to support NAYLC, click HERE.

Thank you!
