Get Involved!!
There are many ways that members of the New York Immigration Coalition can join together to push for changes that better the lives of immigrant and refugee families. Please consider joining a
working group
or getting more involved to help move our collective agenda forward.
Democracy in Action! The Immigrant Voter Education and Mobilization campaign
brings together dozens of immigrant groups to engage in an aggressive program of voter education, voter registration, Get-Out-the-Vote, and other activities to reach over hundreds of thousands of immigrant voters. The Campaign aims to strengthen the voting power of immigrant communities by encouraging informed and active participation of immigrant voters both in the elections themselves and political debates.
Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) Working Group
brings together a wide range of community, advocacy, and immigrant groups from across the state to develop a New York State campaign for comprehensive immigration reform and to coordinate local and national advocacy efforts. Through regular meetings, organizations share information, develop advocacy strategies and get involved in understanding and influencing immigration policies through campaign activities. For more information, contact Gabriela Villareal at ext. 229 or email gvillareal@thenyic.org.
Immigrant and ELL Education Reform Task Force
consists of immigrant, education and legal advocacy organizations that meet regularly to coordinate advocacy and exchange information around issues affecting English Language Learners and immigrant students. To get involved, contact Melanie Reyes at ext. 238 or email mreyes@thenyic.org.
Immigrant Community Services Task Force
works to preserve and expand government funding for adult English-for-Speakers-of-Other-Languages (ESOL) and education classes, as well as immigration and immigrant worker legal services provided by community-based organizations and other agencies.
