Position Overview
The Director of Development will lead the NYIC’s growing Development Team to execute a bold strategy to significantly increase growth in all fundraising sectors - foundations, corporations, government, individuals, events - through strategic thinking and innovative initiatives. The Director will also work with senior leadership to ensure deliverables are being met and data for reporting is being properly captured. The Director will develop and maintain strong relationships with foundation contacts, grant officers, and key individual donors. Additionally, the Director will have experience with event management - from house parties to executing an annual fundraising gala.


Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Executive Director, the NYIC Board of Directors, and NYIC’s internal senior leadership to ensure successful fundraising and strategic growth of NYIC programs
  • Create and execute a strategy to increase the NYIC’s fundraising profile, to fit with our 2016-2020 strategic plan and priorities
  • Oversee all fundraising events, grant writing, and donor cultivation, and manage a diverse and challenging portfolio of grant opportunities and donor engagement
  • Supervise growing Development team, manages performance, offers coaching, guides professional development, and provides key feedback
  • Work closely to integrate all departments to accomplish development goals, and create an environment of clear communication between relevant parties to ensure all NYIC staff members are aware of funding being sought and secured
  • Work with Executive Director and Board Nominations Committee to recruit and steward individuals to join the NYIC’s Board of Directors
  • Work closely with our accounting team to ensure monies are being received, processed, and tracked within the NYIC’s accounts
  • Represent the NYIC in the place of the Executive Director in front of major stakeholders and potential funders


Qualities Sought:
  • Six to ten years of relevant experience and strong track record of demonstrated success in fundraising, donor cultivation, and organizational development;
  • Experience with donor campaigns, annual appeals, and creating a strategic plan for development highly desired
  • Experience with supervision and professional development, coaching and leadership a strong asset
  • Knowledge of and background in immigration issues at a national, state and local level is an advantage
  • Creative, energetic, and well organized
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, oral communications skills
