Registering New Citizen Voters
Registering New Citizen Voters
The NYIC builds immigrant voting power through its nationally-recognized New Citizen Voter Registration Project. The largest voter registration project in New York State and the most successful initiative of its kind in the country, the volunteer-run project has registered more than 280,000 new citizens to vote over the past ten years.
The secret of our success has been continued outreach and presence at nearly all citizenship swearing-in ceremonies in the New York metropolitan area and a cadre of over 300 well-trained, highly-committed volunteers from all walks of life. Our volunteers don’t just register people to vote—they talk to them about the democratic process and the vital importance of exercising the franchise. The underlying message is a simple one: get out and vote—it’s an important way to make life better for your family and community!
