STAND WITH IMMIGRANT FAMILIES AND DREAMERS
What: STAND WITH IMMIGRANT FAMILIES AND DREAMERS
When: Noon, Thursday, June 14
Where: 26 Federal Plaza
Description: Join elected officials, religious leaders, immigrants and advocates, and call on President Obama to use his power to protect our communities.
Last Spring, the Administration announced a new prosecutorial discretion policy that would protect immigrant workers and families from the tragedy of deportation. We welcomed this policy as an important first step in providing relief for our communities. But a year later, families continue to be torn apart, and immigrant workers remain under siege. As Father's Day approaches, we are calling on the President and Secretary Napolitano to act with justice and compassion by taking these steps:
- Fulfill the promise of prosecutorial discretion: provide real relief for families threatened by separation;
- Protect all DREAMers - young people who are American in all but paperwork - who want only to follow their dreams and help build the America of tomorrow;
- End Secure Communities, the DHS program that encourages racial profiling; funnels parents, workers and students into the deportation system; and undermines communities' trust in law enforcement agencies.
