Family Based Immigration Law & Adjustment of Status Basics
Date: Tuesday April 1, 2014  Time: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This training will provide an overview of the basic eligibility requirements for adjustment of status in the United States with a focus on family-based immigration. The training will also survey common grounds of inadmissibility encountered by potential adjustment applicants as well as provides a general description of the adjustment of status process. This training will be conducted by Jose Enrique Perez, Esq. CLE credit: 4 credits in professional practice. This course provides transitional credit for newly admitted attorneys and non-transitional credit for experienced attorneys.

Naturalization and Citizenship
Date: Tuesday, April 1, 2014 Time: 1:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

This training will cover basic topics relating to naturalization and citizenship. Topics will include acquisition and derivation of citizenship, eligibility for naturalization, impediments and bars to naturalization, practice and procedure. It will also introduce the longer Form N-400, going into effect on May 5th, and will highlight the differences with previous versions. This training will be hosted by Divya Hoffman, Esq. CLE credit: 4 credits in professional practice. This course provides transitional credit for newly admitted attorneys and non-transitional credit for experienced attorneys.

Handling Asylee Cases
Date: Wednesday, April 2, 2014 Time: 8:30 a.m. to 11:20 a.m.

This training will cover how to handle immigration needs of clients once they have been granted asylum. Topics discussed will include obtaining travel documents and travel restrictions, employment authorization, filing petitions for derivative beneficiaries, filing nunc pro tunc applications, adjustment of status, and I-602 waivers. Familiarity with asylum law is recommended, but not required. This training will be conducted by Wally Ruehle, Esq. of the Legal Aid Society of Rochester. CLE credit: 3 credits in professional practice. This course provides transitional credit for newly admitted attorneys and non-transitional credit for experienced attorneys.

How to Prepare and Submit a Fee Waiver Request to the USCIS
Date: Wednesday, April 2, 2014 Time: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 pm

With the recent increase in fees for immigration applications and petitions, more practitioners seek to submit to the USCIS requests for a fee waiver for clients who are unable to pay the fees. The training will cover the USCIS fee waiver guidance and the Form I-912, Request for Fee Waiver, as well as provide practical tips for preparing and submitting a fee waiver request. CLE credits: 1 credit in professional practice.

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
Date: Wednesday, April 2, 2014 Time: 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 pm.

This training will cover the basic eligibility requirements for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) as well as walk through filling out the Form I-821D, Form I-765, and Form I-765WS. The training will also discuss the potential documentation to include with a request packet. CLE credit: 2 credits in professional practice. This course provides transitional credit for newly admitted attorneys and non-transitional credit for experienced attorneys.
