NPNA Citizenship Program

The New York Immigration Coalition is a proud member of the National Partnership for New Americans (NPNA), whose mission is to advance the integration and active citizenship of immigrants to achieve a vibrant, just, and welcoming democracy for all.

NPNA's vision is an authentic and welcoming democracy in which new Americans achieve equal opportunity and are a powerful and organized constituency. Policies and programs at all levels will foster a high quality of life for all, and new Americans will vote, hold office and participate fully in civic life and economic prosperity.

As part of the NPNA, we implement innovative programs that help immigrants become active and engaged citizens working for a stronger and more inclusive democracy and a vibrant nation.

For more on NPNA, find them on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Youtube.

The role of the NYIC is to provide trainings to the staff of nonprofit organizations in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania as well as staff of NPNA member organizations on “Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) Recognition and Accreditation” as well as trainings for attorneys on “Overview of Citizenship and Naturalization Law.” These trainings are geared toward increasing the capacity of nonprofit agencies to obtain BIA agency recognition and staff accreditation to help them in turn provide legal assistance to people applying to become U.S. citizens. The NYIC also seeks to attract immigration attorneys to join the NPNA and help represent naturalization applicants pro bono. The NYIC will also provide technical assistance on BIA recognition and accreditation as well as citizenship and naturalization law to people who attend these trainings to help them better understand the topics and in turn provide better services to their clients.
